FRU receives major boost ahead of 2019 Skipper Cup competition

One of the biggest sponsorship deal was officiated today giving a further boost to the famous Skipper Cup Competition.

CJ Patel today provided over half a million dollars towards the tournament to help the development of domestic rugby clubs.

Fiji Rugby Union Chief Executive John O’Connor says the competition has grown over the years, and today’s financial assistance will take it to a new level.

“It all starts here at the FRU premier domestic competition. We have noticed that the competition continues to improve in intensity and it’s a pathway – that prepares local players, as well as they, move on to join the Fiji Drua or the Fijian Latui.”

The eight Unions participating in the Skipper Fiji Rugby Championship are Nadroga, Namosi, Naitasiri, Suva, Rewa, Nadi and the newly promoted Tailevu and Northland.

The winner of the main competition wins $30,000 with the runner up getting $15,000.

The champion of the Under 19 division walks away with $5,000 and the runner up prize is $2,000.

The final of the competition is scheduled for the 22nd of June.

The competition kicks off tomorrow.
