Fiji Rugby Union President Voreqe Bainimarama unveiled the new Fiji jersey design at the FRU awards night in Suva yesterday.

Bainimarama says the new design embodies the country’s tradition and reflects our national heritage.

“This facelift also include new Masi designs unique to Fiji Rugby to be applied to the jersey of our national teams and other applications. The design reflects our culture and heritage and creating a sense of continuity and connection to the values of our teams.”

Director for Arts and Craftsmen Development Niqa Tuvuki says the design was specifically modified for a contemporary Fiji celebrating the fourteen provinces in the country.

“You’ve seen the throwing club before at FRU we had Levula running, and with the sense that it is a throwing weapon that was used by warriors in the older generation. You can also see there are some small rugby balls with fifteen stripes on it representing the fifteen provinces in Fiji. When our rugby players leave the country it says that it takes the blessings of the Vanua including Rotuma as well.”

The design gives a clean looking upgrade allowing wider use with FRU’s partners.
