Despite Fiji losing their first pool match of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Fijian fans have been given the reassurance that the players remain focused for their next three games.

It was not Fiji’s day yesterday, and discipline was a contributing factor.

Fiji’s excellent attack was on display last night, however it lasted only the first half of the first match against Australia.

Captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu expressed his disappointment of the 39-21 loss against the Wallabies.

“I thought we played well in the first half, there’s just a lot of things that we need to work on for the next game. Mainly the discipline in the second half and that cost us a player in the second half. I think we prepared well but we need to improve more if we want to compete in this competition.”

Wallabies Captain Michael Hooper says the win against Fiji did not come easy.

“It’s a testing match for us, going down like that and in the fashion that we did, Fiji really came out of the blocks, aggressive you know they’re big physical guys, and they took it to us there. Really proud f our guys to regroup. We managed to work our set piece really nicely, in the game and ultimately that paid off really well for us.”

The Flying Fijians will now take on Uruguay in their next match at the Rugby World Cup.

Fiji will meet Uruguay this Wednesday at 5.15pm.
