Fiji Airways Flying Fijians captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu has been tipped by Brive Coach Jeremy Davidson for a promotion to the Top 14 and quarterfinal qualification for Fiji at the Japan World Cup.
The former Ratu Kadavulevu School student took over the Fijian captaincy from Akapusi Qera for the November series which led Fiji to a historic win over France.
According to Rugby Pass, that milestone hasn’t distracted from Waqaniburotu’s mission of getting his club back in the French top flight following their relegation last May.
He says Waqaniburotu is key to their promotion plans even though he has started from the bench in four of his 10 club appearances this season.
“He does not let himself down. He is a tough guy, a leader of men. He embodies an authority, not by his words but by his actions. After the exceptional victory at the Stade de France, nothing has changed in his behavior.”
The 32-year-old is now in his seventh season at Brive.
He will be one of the many Fijian overseas-based players who is vying for a World Cup spot for the Flying Fijians.
Fiji is in pool D with Australia, Wales, Georgia and Uruguay in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan which will be held on the 21st of September to the 2nd of November.
