Australia aims to take home Oceania 7s title

The Australian 7s team arrived in the country on Tuesday with a mission to win the Oceania 7s and qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Coach Tim Walsh says the team has been eyeing this tournament in their calendar as it is a good opportunity to secure a spot for the Olympics.

He adds that they couldn’t have come at a better time as he knows that these warm up matches benefit both teams equally.

Every time we come here we come we come away with getting a real value added performance particularly for us leading into Oceania looking at qualifying so the challenge is to outplay the best. There’s no better way to prepare for a tournament than to do that.

The Oceania 7s tournament will be held from the 7th to the 9th of November.

Fiji is pooled with New Zealand, Japan, New Caledonia and Niue.
