Blues and Chiefs will kick off the new season at Eden Park on January 31st.

The 2020 Super Rugby season will kick off earlier than any previous season.

Sanzaar released next year’s schedule on Tuesday afternoon, revealing the Blues and Chiefs will kick off the new season at Eden Park on January 31st.

The schedule also confirmed new kickoff times next season, with matches which previously got underway at 7.35pm now set to kick-off at 7.05pm.

Games which previously kicked off at 5.15pm are now set for 4.45pm starts.

Sanzaar chief executive Andy Marinos said the earlier than usual start was necessary to get through the 21-week tournament and provide the four Sanzaar nations with a clear week leading into the July test window.

“The complexity of the draw and managing logistics and scheduling that delivers a draw that is fair and equitable has been our priority. This has been achieved with a consultative and collaborative approach with the national unions, Super Rugby teams and broadcasters,” he said in a statement.

The reigning champion Crusaders kick off their quest for four straight titles on February 1, when they will take their home game against the Waratahs.
