Australian Rugby League legends Johnathan Thurston and Cameron Smith have been recognized together in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honors list.
They enjoyed sustained record-breaking success alongside each other at Queensland and national level so it’s fitting that both have been recognized.
Smith says he is humbled by the honor and it’s been a wonderful privilege to play for Australia, Queensland and Melbourne Storm for so many years and to be part of such a great team sport as rugby league.
Thurston says the honor is unexpected.
NRL CEO Todd Greenberg says he is proud of the duo’s achievements.
Storm CEO Dave Donaghy also speak highly of Smith’s contribution to the sport.
