Jason Taumalolo is now North Queensland’s sole captain after Michael Morgan’s medical retirement, but the powerhouse lock can lean on some club legends.

Taumalolo, who needs to get through contact training to return from a broken hand against the Bulldogs at QCB Stadium on Sunday, spoke to NRL.com while promoting the Kayo Grassroots Support Program.

Leadership is nothing new to Taumalolo – he skippered the Cowboys when Morgan was out with a shoulder issue for much of last season and started 2021 sharing the position – but he’ll now hold the full-time role on a solo basis for the first time in his career.

Talk of a problem between Taumalolo and Payten blew up after the coach criticized his star player’s defensive movements in his first post-match press conference as a fully-fledged NRL coach.

Meanwhile, the Eels will face the Raiders on Saturday at 9.35pm.

Other matches on Saturday sees the Sea Eagles meet the Titans at 5pm before the Rabbitohs take on the West Tigers at 7.30pm and you can watch this live on FBC Sports on the Walesi platform.
