Rabbitohs royalty John Sutton will call time on one of the most celebrated careers in the club’s history at the end of 2019.

Sutton announced his NRL retirement today, confirming he will hang up the boots at the end of this year’s finals campaign, aiming for a farewell title to go with the club’s emotional 2014 triumph.

Having debuted in 2004, just three years after Souths’ readmission to the NRL, Sutton has been a constant throughout the club’s revival.

He is the only 300-game player in the Rabbitohs’ proud history and will be forever remembered for leading them to the drought-breaking 2014 premiership.

With 329 appearances for the foundation club, Sutton will move into the all-time top 10 for NRL games if he remains fit until the end of the regular season.

He has always been eligible for the Fiji Bati through his Rotuman heritage but never donned the White jumper.
