The Ratu Navula Sea Eagle Under-19 rugby league side beat Ba Pro Freebird Dragon 19-12 to win the Bati Shield yesterday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The team turned out victorious against the Ba Pro Freebird Dragon in the semi-finals of the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition to win the Bati Shield and book a place in the Grand final of the national rugby league final.

Ratu Navula’s Coach Bale Qaranivalu dedicated the win to the families of the Ratu Navula students who lost their lives in the Nabou accident last year.

“The boys knew what they were up against. From the tragic events of last year at Nabou and things were going against us in many different ways, they had to do something, they had to give back to the school and the Vanua of Nadi, their families for having faith in them and bringing back the victory.”

The Eagles came out strong in the second spell to snatch the win from Ba Pro who was leading 12-4 at the breather.

Ratu Navula Sea Eagle Captain Jonetani Nabokini says teamwork, determination, and commitment sealed the win for them.

“They are the champion in Fiji and they’ve taken the shield so many times, Ba Pro is the defending Champion but I told the boys that withGod nothing is impossible. We just work together and we should just give the glory back to god.”

The Ratu Navula Sea Eagle will take on the QVS Knights in the Secondary School Rugby League Grand Final at Garvey Park, Tavua next weekend.
