The South Sydney Rabbitohs have pulled off a huge upset on the eve of the finals, defeating the Sydney Roosters 16-10 in a result which books a top-four finish.

The Rabbitohs pushed up into third on the ladder but will drop to fourth if the Canberra Raiders can win over the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday.

While the second chance is secured for the side, the war against the Roosters ended with plenty of blood drawn.

The Rabbitohs finished with just 12 healthy players after four failed head injury assessment tests for Adam Reynolds, John Sutton, Liam Knight and Junior Tatola — and Dane Gagai suffered a leg injury.

It also ended the Roosters’ seven-game winning streak.

With just six minutes left, Roosters enforcer Jared Warea-Hargreaves left Sydney with some judiciary issues after Rabbitohs forward Liam Knight was left bloodied and disorientated following a hit.

With Souths leading 14-10, Knight backed into the line and as he was taken to the ground, Warea-Hargreaves came in over the top.

The hit caught Knight high and bounced his head into the head of Lindsay Collins, leaving both men bloodied.

Tries to Campbell Graham and Walker just two minutes apart midway through the second stanza gave the Rabbitohs their third win in a row.

Joey Manu was creating all kinds of havoc on the right edge and when he drew two defenders, he popped a magnificent flick pass to Smith who was given a saloon passage to the line.

The Roosters were up 10-2 at the break and considering Latrell Mitchell and Victor Radley both dropped the ball with the line open, they looked to have their opposition on the ropes.

But the game swung when the Rabbitohs crossed in back-to-back sets to take the lead at 14-10.

First Graham exploited a poor defensive read by Mitchell before Damien Cook split the Roosters up the middle to put Cody Walker over.
