South Sydney captain Greg Inglis arrived at the club’s headquarters to announce his immediate retirement from rugby league this morning and cop a huge salary sacrifice in the process, according to reports.

The club has called a press conference for 11.30am with Inglis, Coach Wayne Bennett, CEO Blake Solly and general manager of football Shane Richardson.

Foxsports.com.au reveals Inglis informed his teammates following their game against the Warriors on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Inglis had helped the team warm up pre-game, and then addressed the playing group in the sheds afterwards.

Inglis has been battling various injuries, namely shoulder and knee complaints, and questions have been raised as to whether he can physically and mentally still withstand the rigours of the NRL.
