There were a few firsts achieved for Fiji at the Pacific Games rugby league competition.

It’s also the first time Fiji managed to win both the rugby league gold.
But what also stands out is a father and son winning the men’s gold medal together.
Coach Vula Dakuitoga and his son Maikeli who played an instrumental role in the final were emotional after their gold medal win.
Vula says it’s quite a special moment for the family.
Maikeli Dakuitoga says many didn’t agree with his selection but his dad told him to prove them wrong on the field and it was evident in the two days of competition when he put his body on the line.
Meanwhile, women’s captain and former Fijiana 7s winger Timaima Ravisa says they have achieved their goal.
Women’s rugby league coach Peni Tubakibau says he knew from the beginning that Fiji was going to do something special in this Pacific Games.
