There will be gold medals on offer in 20 events across seven different sports at the Pacific Games today.

Rugby 7s climaxes with the playoff rounds, including medal matches in both the men’s and women’s competition, where Fiji and Australia respectively look the teams to beat for gold.

The women’s gold medal match is scheduled for 8.58pm while the men’s will kick off at 9.49pm.

Six gold medals are on offer in swimming, while Va’a canoeing also will have medals.

Shooting also continues with the sole event of the day, the mixed single barrel final slated for 6pm.

This is a ‘down the line’ discipline of clay target shooting and Fiji’s Glenn Kable has been dominating these shotgun events in Pacific Games competition since 2003.

Power lifting sees gold medals in six different weight divisions on offer.

The Telecom Fijiana side defeated Tonga, 45-0 and will face New Caledonia at 12pm today in the quarterfinals while the men’s quarterfinals will begin at 3:06pm.

In the basketball playoffs, the Fiji men’s side will face Samoa at 3pm in the while the women’s side takes on Tahiti at 1pm.

The Fiji men’s side defeated Tahiti 75-67 yesterday while the women’s side defeated PNG 88-69.

On the unofficial medal tally, Fiji now has 8 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals and lies in fifth spot.

PNG leads with 28 gold, 18 silver and 10 bronze medals, Tahiti is second with 16 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze.

New Caledonia is third with 14 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze, while Samoa has 11 gold and 14 silver.
