Fiji Para-Table Tennis rep, Mere Rodan defeated Australia’s number one wheelchair player, Rosalie Turnbull to win a silver medal at the ITTF Oceania Cup in Bendigo, Australia.

This remarkable achievement comes in two-fold as Rodan automatically qualifies for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

Rodan’s feat is made even more astonishing as she only took up the sport six months ago.

Rodan is part of the first ever national Para Table Tennis team, which include Akanisi Latu, Sainimili Naivalu (wheelchair women), Francis Chung (wheelchair men) and John Tauni (ambulant men).

Meanwhile, in the Pacific Cup, 13 year old Grace Yee claimed a bronze medal after losing to number 1 seed Melveen Richmond of Tahiti in the semi-finals.

All Fiji players had qualified from the round robin groups and most had reached the quarterfinal stages.
