When completed, the refurbished Churchill Park in Lautoka will become the new sports landmark for the entire Western Division.
Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala says works are expected to be completed by next month.
Bala adds hopes are high that the venue will host one of the biggest secondary schools competition in the South Pacific region next year.
“The Ministry has partnered the project with the Lautoka City Council for with an allocated $2.8 million to provide international standard facilities at the hub of the west. I have been assured by Lawrence Tikaram of Coca Cola Amatil Fiji, that once completed they will move the Coca Cola Games to Lautoka as well. If they won’t host Coca Cola Games in Lautoka, then we will organize a Pepsi Games.”
A new pavilion has been erected at the venue as well as a 400 meters synthetic track.
