Record holder challenges athletes

November 4, 2017 11:46 pm

Eighty runners took part in the Suva Challenge, the first major build-up race for next year’s Suva Marathon.

Athletes braved the wet conditions earlier today to test their times and have a fair idea of where they stand.

Today’s race was a bit special for the athletes as Marathon Record holder Binesh Prasad, now residing in USA, was present as Chief Guest.

Prasad says a lot of work is needed if our athletes are to excel on the field.

“Well, looking at the times recorded, I think the women in the USA can better these times. These are the times recorded in daily training of professional athletes. We can achieve it. However, it cannot be done overnight.”

The next Suva Challenge will be held in April next year after which the Suva Marathon takes place in July.
