The disappearance of former Fiji 7s squad member Eroni Ravaga in New Zealand has stunned the community he was playing for as he had won the hearts of the people in a short time.

Ravaga is now feared dead after being swept away by currents while swimming at Akitio Beach.

Playing for Puketoi club, he recently made the Wairarapa Bush squad and was due to make his debut for the rep team yesterday against New Zealand Universities.

Wairarapa Bush Rugby community rugby co-ordinator Doug Bracewell told FBC Sports they are still shocked.

“Particularly with the impact he was making while he was here. He had made quite an impact on the community he was representing and it is very sad what has happened here.”

Bracewell adds they are now trying to recover Ravaga’s body.

“Obviously they want to find the body. The Police have released the name but there of course is the concern for the family back home and the Puketoi rugby club will be very mindful of that.”

Ravaga also played for Fiji at the IRB Junior World Cup in 2009.
