Queensland confident to defend title

Defending champions of the National Rugby Championships, the Queensland Country side is oozing with confidence in a bid to win its third title.

The side thumped Fiji Airways Drua 57-21 in the semifinal and then defeated Canberra Vikings 42-28 in the final last year.

Queensland captain Duncan Paia’aua says the players are aware of the competition and a ready to win the championship again.

“We kind of coming off as the champions last year so I think we have got a lot of last years’ players coming in again this year so it’s good and hopefully the younger boys can add to what we did last year.”

The NRC kicks off on Saturday and the Queensland takes on the Vikings at 7pm in Canberra and in the other match earlier at 3pm Fiji Drua hosts Melbourne Rising at 3pm in Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park.
