Powerlifting Fiji misses out

Lack of financial support has forced Powerlifting Fiji to forfeit the World Masters in the US next week.

Team manager Rajnel Prasad says they have not been able to gather enough funds as no sponsor has come forward.

Prasad says the lack of interest in minor sports by the corporate sector has cost Fiji another medal.

“The lack of sponsorship and also lack of support from the business houses -so don’t think that we don’t want to go abroad. We need to have money to be part of this event..”

Prasad says Seinimili Turner and Eric Jioji had been lifting way more than people in their category and were medal contenders.

He adds this has not only hurt athletes but the sport as well.
