The Fiji football side put up a determined fight but lost to Wellington Phoenix 2-1 at the ANZ Stadium.

Captain Roy Krishna had put the hosts in the lead in the 24th minute after receiving a well-timed pass from midfielder Avinesh Swamy.

The Kiwis leveled the scores in the 41st minute to Roly Bonevacia and sealed the win with another goal in the 75th to Tom Doyle.

In the earlier match, the Fiji under 23 side defeated the Wellington Phoenix Academy side 2-1.
