A Pacific Island men’s and women’s side will be selected at the end of the World Hockey League and Oceania Pacific Cup Championship in Suva next month.
Oceania Hockey Federation official Gill Gemming says talks are underway to include the sides in a six nation’s hockey tournament against the top clubs in New Zealand.
“We’re not quite sure the name of the teams, whether it be the Oceania men and women’s team. That’s yet to be decided but we hope that it will be an incentive for all the players to have their names read out at the end of the tournament.”
The World Hockey League and Oceania Pacific Cup championship will be held concurrently at the National Hockey Centre on December 6th-13th.
Fiji will compete against regional teams such as Australia Country, New Zealand Presidents, PNG, Samoa, Vanuatu and Tonga.
