Pacific Games eight retained in Fijiana

Eight players from the Pacific Games gold medal Fijiana 7s team have been retained in the 12-member side for the Oceania Women’s Qualifiers in Lautoka next week.

Team captain and Mereoni Yabakidrau (hooker), Rusila Nagasau (centre), Rusila Tamoi (halfback), Ana Roqica (halfback), Asenaca Tuena (prop), Priscilla Siata (Prop), Tokasa Raikoso (playmaker), Elina Rataulava (playmaker) will be the core players.

Also named are national newcomers, Lavenia Tinai (centre) and Talica Vodo.

Australia and New Zealand have already qualified for the Sevens World Cup in Moscow next year.

Fiji must win next week to become the top Pacific side to move on to the Asia qualifiers in India in October.

Fijiana’s campaign begins with the Cook Islands at Churchill Park next Friday, followed by Tonga then hot favourites, New Zealand.

Australia leads Pool A with the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Samoa.
