Fiji Rugby Union Chief Executive John O’Connor has praised the Fiji Under20 team’s performance at the World Championship.

Fiji managed to avoid relegation after winning their only match to finish second last.

O’Connor says the main aim was to retain their position in tier one and grow from there next year.

“We know what we need to do now, so the boys have taken a break, we are lucky because the 16 players that went this year are eligible to play against next year.”

Fiji defeated Scotland 59-34 in the 11th place play-off.

Fiji was playing in its first World Rugby Under-20 Championship since they were relegated from the competition in 2014.
