Mereani Folau Tuwai is taking up the challenge in fighting for the final 12 spots in the Fiji Pearls netball side for the World Cup in July.

The 25-year-old is the wife of Fiji 7s star half-back Jerry Tuwai and is part of the 25 member-extended squad.

Tuwai says she has the full support from her husband and aims to continue the family legacy carrying the name in netball.

“I’m really humbled to be part of the final selection and I want to follow the footstep of my husband. He has stamped his name in rugby and I’m aiming to do the same in netball. I’m going to keep striving just like what my husband always tells me to keep working hard no matter the circumstances. I’m used to watching him playing and now I want him to watch me playing in an international arena.”

She adds being part of the national extended squad is a highlight of her netball career.

Meanwhile, Coach Vicki Wilson will name her final squad in June.

The National netball side will play test matches against Singapore and the Silver Ferns as part of the build-up to the world event.

The Fiji Pearls are in Pool C with Jamaica, South Africa, Trinidad, and Tobago.

The Netball World Cup runs through the 12th to the 21st of July in the UK.
