Fiji Pearls to face Samoa in 13th-place play-off

The Fiji Pearls beat Sri Lanka 59-44 to claim their second win of the Preliminaries stage two at the Vitality Netball World Cup.

This win confirms their 13th-place play-off spot against Samoa, the leaders of Group E heading into day six.

Both the 13th-place game – involving Fiji and Samoa – and the 15th-place game between Sri Lanka and Singapore, will take place on Friday night.

Samoa had earlier defeated Fiji 55-54.

The Pearls Goal Shooter Lydia Panapasa who played a crucial role in Fiji’s win against Singapore was injured during this match.

Speaking after the Pearls second win, Coach Vicki Wilson said she was very pleased with the win.

Wilson says she is keeping her fingers crossed as not only Panapasa but Episake Kahatoka was also injured during this match.

Wilson says she wants a win against Samoa.

Meanwhile, Samoa defeated Singapore 63-49.

Samoa has won all three of their previous games in the Netball World Cup.

The Fiji-Samoa match will take place at 10.15pm this Friday.
