The Kundan Singh Open Chess Championship is expected to pit the best local players against each other on Sunday.

Fiji Chess Federation President, Calvin Prasad says apart from the $300 hundred prize money on offer among the open, secondary and primary school grades, it is also a chance for players to impress national selectors for the World Chess Olympiad.

“The extended squad at the moment has about 18 players. We have three national selectors who will finalize the team in the next three to four weeks. Both the open team and the women’s team. The Olympiad will be held in Azerbaijan in September.”
