June 15, 2015 4:45 am

The Naitasiri rugby team has been stripped of four points for fielding an unregistered player in its round three Skipper Cup match against Ovalau.

Naitasiri had won 22-12 but Ovalau filed a protest against Naitasiri for fielding Epeli Naititokovai, claiming that he was not registered under Naitasiri.

Following investigations by the Fiji Rugby Union Games Committee it was found that their complaint was valid and that the said player is currently registered under Savura rugby club in Suva and had not followed the release protocol to play for Naitasiri.

Therefore, the games committee ruled that the match points be reversed and the four points to be awarded to Ovalau.

This means Naitasiri now has 10 points and remains in sixth place on the standings.
