Nadi first team through to the IDC semifinal

The Nadi football side is the first team to qualify for the Courts Inter District Championship semifinal at ANZ Stadium last night.

This after Suva defeated Rewa 2-1 which means the Delta Tigers are out of the tournament after two straight defeats.

The win gave the Capital City side a life line as they need to beat Tavua today to qualify to the semifinal.

Captain Ravnesh Karan Singh and Bruce Hughes scored the goals for the Suva side while Rewa’s lone was scored by Iosefo Verevou.

Hughes says he gave his best shot as he knew the situation after their first loss.

“I would like to thank the god for giving me the strength. I believed in my self and I knew I would have delivered if given a chance.”

Nadi import Imraan Shah says his team needs to rectify on few areas before the semifinal.

“We have a good set of players. Its just we need more game time and understanding so that we can be perfect in the semifinal.”

In the other pool, Labasa leads the group with six points while Ba is second with three points followed by Lautoka and then Nasinu which has been bundled out of the tournament.

Labasa mid-fielder Edwin Sayaham says they need to be focused in their last pool match against Ba so that they can also qualify to the semifinal.

“Ba is a good team. After a one nil win over Lautoka, we need to remain determined as we need to win and qualify as the pool winners from the group.”

Lautoka and Ba will hope to beat Tavua and Labasa in order to qualify while the Northerners just needs a draw against the Men in Black tomorrow.

Ba Manager Sabreena Khan says Labasa is a good team and they need to come up with a good game plan to beat them.

“We need to go back and work on our game plan. Labasa is a tough team and beating them will be difficult.”

Meanwhile, in the matches today, Lautoka faces Nasinu at 11am, Suva plays Tavua at 1pm, Nadi meets Rewa at 3pm and Ba meets Labasa at 5pm.

In the senior division, Lami battles Tailevu Naitasiri at 9am, Nadroga meets Taveuni at 10am, and Rakiraki plays Savusavu at 12pm while Navua takes on Seaqaqa at 2pm.
