More international competitions expected at Vodafone Arena

The newly renovated Vodafone Arena

More international competitions are expected to be staged at the newly renovated Vodafone Arena.

This follows the re-opening of the arena today by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The courts are now available for regional and international competitions such as Oceania Championships, which featured futsal, volleyball, weightlifting, taekwondo and basketball prior to its closing for renovation works last year.

The Fiji Sports Council will now introduce another facility that expands its inventory to include an additional court of international standards for volleyball, badminton, Karate, Judo and basketball.

While opening the facility today, Prime Minister Bainimarama says this will give our sportsmen and women another reason to excel in their different disciplines.

‘Given that the last works were completed 15 years ago we’ve put in the time and resources to make ensure this facility is built to last we not repeating past mistakes instead we have redevelop this arena in a manner that makes  future expansion works far easier and and affordable ‘.

Boasting state of the art wooden flooring,increased ventilation,state of the art screens and the inclusion of two brand new indoor multi purpose halls, Sports Council Chief Executive Litiana Loabuka says it’s a proud moment for them.

The Fiji Sports Council invested $16.8 million in the renovations of the arena.

Meanwhile, FSC and Vodafone will continue with their corporate partnership following a new 3 year deal for naming rights to state of the art facility.
