Ministry of Sports receives $29.2 million

Ministry of Youth and Sports has been allocated a total of $29.2 million dollars.

Minister of Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum announced an increase of $6.7 million dollars for Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He says Fiji National Sports Commission will receive $9 million dollars through the Ministry for three major programs.

“First we will continue to fund in the engagement of international coaches to improve our standard. We’ll also help our national teams participating in 38 international competitions including the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Pacific Mini Games in Papua New Guinea. We will also host international tournaments in Fiji including the Oceania Men’s and Women’s 7s tournament, 2017 World Cadet Table Tennis Challenge, the Junior Pan Pacific Games in swimming and the Fijian Rugby 15’s team international matches.”

Meanwhile, the Sports Development is another area the government is focusing on in this budget.
