Fiji National Sports Commission Chair Peter Mazey has commended the initiative taken by Deaf Sports in the country to fund raise and not rely completely on government funding.

Mazey says alongside Deaf sports, the United Blind Association is leading the way for other sporting federations to find avenues to generate funds.

Mazey adds the United Blinds Association is currently having its walk-a-thon from Suva to Nadi to fund raise for their organization.

He adds the effort put in by Deaf sports and the United Blind Association coincides with their development plan.

“All national sporting organizations are always complaining of not having enough funds. Story of our lives. Doesn’t matter what country where you are it always happens. The one thing that I have noticed in Fiji which is been great we started working three years ago with deaf sports. They had an amazing ability for raising funds so government has assisted them whenever they need it for their tournaments and of course getting into the World Rugby Deaf Games.”

Mazey says the United Blind are expected to reach Nadi on Saturday as they complete their walk-a-thon.
