Mereani Thaggard of Suva caused a major upset of Day One of the National Open Singles Bowling Competition yesterday.

Thaggard defied all odds to beat the defending champion of the Women’s division Litia Tikoisuva 21 – 16.

Despite the loss, Tikoisuva will have another chance of qualifying for the elimination today with two rounds remaining.

“It’s really anyones game in terms of bowls because you really can’t underestimate anyone.”

With two wins and a loss, Tikoisuva is expected to come back strong.
