June 18, 2018 6:04 pm

Belgium notched three points in its 2018 World Cup opener despite a poor first half against Panama.

CBS Sports reports, the Belgians struggled with Panama’s physical play in the first half, but in the second half the attack came alive, and it wore the Central American side down on the way to a 3-0 victory.

Dries Mertens made it 1-0 with this ridiculous volley just two minutes into the second half.

The powerful forward Romelu Lukaku scored twice in seven minutes to seal their victory.

That result gave the team three points, while Panama loses its first ever World Cup match.

Panama Coach Hernán Gómez says this was a difficult game for them as their opponents were too strong in defending and attacking.

“Our opposing team made it quite difficult for us. They’re very skilled and they had other possibilities and they did not leave us with any gaps and we had to control their attacks and they’re amazing players.”_

Striker Romeru Lukaku says it was a team work that made him scored a double.

“We have a very good side and we played as a team which made me score goals. For me, it is important to have the right line in the box and to follow that strategy and usually, I’m in a right position now.”
