Logo for regional meet launched

The Oceania under 19 Basketball Championship logo was launched at the Vodafone Arena in Suva today.

University of the South Pacific student Alexandre Peckham, designed the new logo.

The 20 year old graphic artist is an avid basketball fan and saw the logo competition as a way to contribute to the sport.

“I saw the competition they were having, so I said why not put my skills into test and see what I can do and since I love basketball so much, I said why not, just go for it.”

Meanwhile, Minister for Youths and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou, who was chief guest at the launch, says he appreciates the hard work done by Fiji Basketball Assocition in hosting the regional event in December.

“I must commend the association- Basketball Fiji for their hard work in securing the rights to host this tournament. This is a great achievement for your country and government as a whole.”

The 2014 Oceania 19 Basketball Championship will be held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva from the 1st-6th of December.

Fiji will be fielding a men’s and women’s team to take on regional sides such as Australia, New Zealand, Guam, Papua New Guinea, American Samoa, Tahiti and New Caledonia.

The winner’s will gain automatic selection to the FIBA under 19 World Championship in Greece next year.
