Levuka Weightlifting Club declares it's independence from Weightlifting Fiji

October 24, 2018 4:12 pm

*The Levuka Weightlifting Club have decided to separate completely from Weightlifting Fiji and establish a new organization. *

Club President Peni Tawai stated in an email that their club will now be known as Fiji Weightlifters Association.

“Tawai says no longer weightlifters from Levuka will they put up with bullying tactics and disrespect of the rights of the individual by Weightlifting Fiji.”

He says the reason for establishing a new association is due to the dictatorial and unreasonable approach by Weightlifting Fiji towards athletes and officials associated with the Levuka club.

The general meeting for the establishment of their association will be held in Levuka on the 10th of next month.

Tawai says the first Fiji Weightlifters Championships will be held in Levuka and it will be the first championships held in the new IWF bodyweight categories.

Levuka Weightlifting Club declares it's independence from Weightlifting Fiji

October 23, 2018 4:10 pm

The Levuka Weightlifting Club and its athletes have declared its independence from Weightlifting Fiji.

This was after Weightlifting Fiji stated in an email that they are planning to bring the Levuka lifters back after boycotting future international events.

Club President Peni Tawai responded in an email stating, they have refrained themselves from all activities held or hosted by Weightlifting Fiji.

Tawai says they will remain independent till the time Weightlifting Fiji President Atma Maharaj resigned from his post.

He says they have done so much for the country and they have won the only gold medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and they have taken their grievance to the following sports leaders and government officials but they all turn their blind eyes on them and ignoring their actions of seeking justices against Weightlifting Fiji.

He adds they will wait for the right people in order to be back in full force.
