Lautoka wins Courts IDC

The Lautoka football side has won the Courts Inter District title defeating Ba 5-4 on penalty kicks.

Zibraaz Sahib first half penalty saw Lautoka lead 1-nil at half-time.

Abu Zaid equalized for Ba in the second spell to send the match into extra-time.

Both teams missed numerous opportunity in extra-time as they failed to find the winner.

The match went into the dreaded penalty kicks.

Both teams successfully converted their first three penalty kicks.

Avinesh Waran Swamy, Maveliko Nakama, and Manasa Nawakula scored for Ba while Zibraaz Sahib, Josefata Dugucagi and Dave Radrigai replied for Lautoka.

Replacement goalkeeper Senirusi Bukini proved to be the hero for Lautoka as he saved penalties from Meli Codro and Malakai Rakula.

Christopher Wasasala scored Lautoka’s fourth penalty.

Ba’s Laisenia Raura and Saula Waqa was red carded in the match while blues captain Ilaitia Tuilau was also given the marching orders.

Lautoka coach, Kamal Swamy could not hold his emotions after the win.

“Well, this is my first IDC title win with Lautoka. I told the boys we can do it. Losing a player early, we had to make some changes on the field but the boys remained focused. We have worked very hard throughout the year and winning the IDC is a very good payback for us.”

Team President, Abdul Kadar has confirmed that the prize money, together with an additional top-up will be given to the players.

“The players have worked really hard. The full amount of prize money with an additional top up of $22,000 will be given to the players.”

Lautoka received $22,000 for winning the tournament.
