Lautoka and Rewa play to a draw

July 15, 2017 7:57 am

The Lautoka and Rewa football teams played to a 1-all draw at the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.

Zibraaz Sahib scored from the penalty spot in the first spell to see Lautoka leading 1-nil at the break.

Samuela Kautoga grabbed the equalizer in the 33rd minute of the second spell.

Lautoka now needs a draw against Ba tomorrow to qualify for the semi-finals.

Blues coach, Kamal Swamy was happy with the draw but says they could have secured the three points.

“Rewa came out strong in the second spell and made use of their chances. We have some areas to work on and we will need to work on that before the match against Ba tomorrow.”

Ba will need to beat Lautoka to book a spot in the last four but a loss to Rewa against Dreketi will see the two western teams qualify.

Rewa’s fate will be decided after the Ba-Lautoka match but the Delta Tigers have a strong chance of qualifying if they do beat Dreketi.

Rewa coach, Marika Rodu was pleased with the comeback draw.

“We came back after yesterday’s draw. We are unlucky in the first half but the boys had patience and I am happy with the way the boys played today. Team like Dreketi, we will need to keep position and will try and penetrate when they lose control.”

Lautoka and Ba have four points each while Rewa has two points as Dreketi does not have any point.

Meanwhile, Labasa is through to the semi-finals of the tournament after thumping Rakiraki 4-nil today.

Christopher Wasasala scored a hatrick while Jonetani Buksh also grabbed a goal.

The Babasiga Lions had earlier edged Suva 1-nil yesterday.

Labasa lead their group with six points, Nadi has four points, Suva is on one point while Rakiraki is yet to register a point.

In other matches played today, Ba edged Dreketi 1-nil while Nadi and Suva played to a 1-all draw.

Looking at other teams, Nadi needs a draw against Labasa tomorrow to qualify while Suva needs a good win against Rakiraki and will need to hope that Labasa beats Nadi.

Dreketi and Rakiraki have bowed out of the tournament despite having a match each remaining tomorrow.

In matches tomorrow Suva plays Rakiraki at 10.30am, Lautoka battles Ba at 12.30pm , Dreketi takes on Rewa at 2.30pm while, Labasa will face Nadi at 4.30pm.
