The Fiji Rugby Union is pleased to announce that its application for a World Rugby Council seat has finally been unanimously endorsed at the World Rugby Council Meeting held earlier this week.

This was confirmed by FRU Chief Executive John O’Connor who received feedback from World Rugby after the World Rugby Council meeting which was held in Dublin yesterday.

O’Connor highlighted this was one of the greatest achievements in Fiji Rugby History.

“We have been playing organized rugby for the last 106 years and never hadan official representative in the World Rugby decision making Council. To receive this endorsement and become an official member of the World Rugby Council is a momentous occasion not only for the FRU but for Rugby in Fiji.”

O’Connor says it has been a long and challenging journey with previous applications unsuccessful due to not passing the compliance requirements of World Rugby.

He adds the decision by World Rugby will further contribute to this journey of making FRU a leader in World Rugby.
