Vodafone Fiji Under-20 football coach Ravinesh Kumar says his players put in a polished effort in its first match of the Australia tour.

The side drew its first match 1-all against the Western Sydney Wanderers last night.

Suva rep Antonio Tuivuna scored the goal for Fiji in the second half to give the side the lead, before the hosts leveled the proceedings.

Speaking to FBC Sports from Australia, Kumar says the result of the match was secondary, but the effort put in by the players was impressive.

“Quite impressed with the performance as we don’t go for the result now as it’s not our main priority. Our main priority is the performance and the effort the that the boys put into a game. And the effort we see in the boys and their attitude in attacking and defending playing with a team like Sydney Wanderers was good. Even though the Wanderers were a mixture of youth and senior, they have won the national league in New South Wales and we have put in a good performance against them and we hope the boys continue to improve.”

The side plays its second match against the New South Wales Academy side on Friday.
