Fijian football golden boy, Roy Krishna has today revealed how his former Wellington Phoenix coach Mark Rudan pushed him to being the best in the A-League.
Krishna, last night walked away with the Johnny Warren medal for Best Player of the Season in the A-League and also the Golden Boot with 18 goals.
Rudan, who joined Phoenix in 2018, changed the team atmosphere and was instrumental in making Krishna the most feared marksman in the league.
“From the first day he walked in, we had a one on one chat and he told me what my weakness was and what my strengths were. He told me he believed in me and he will make me the best player in the A-League., which I really didn’t believe could happen. From there on he believed in me and he pushed me in every training session. He set individual targets and I think I achieved every one of it. Credit goes to him as he knew what I had.”

The Siberia, Labasa man was aware of his antics during the season but was never confident of nailing the award.
“It was a total surprise for me. I think my wife told me before we left for the awards that, that I will get it. She believed in it more than I did. But yeah I am really happy to get this.”

Krishna, who is off contract with the Phoenix, says those who were negative towards him, helped to push him to better himself and become the best.
“I was just blessed to be around good people and to the young fans I want to tell you is that if people say this, just take it on the chin and work harder. When you become someone, you can go back to them and give thanks to them because they pushed you.”
Krishna is also the top bet to win Player of the Year at the Wellington Phoenix Club awards later this month.
