Kangaroos too good for Bati in first RLWC semi-final

The Vodafone Fiji Bati side were beaten by a more experienced Australian Kangaroo side 54-6, in the first semi-final of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup in Brisbane Australia last night.

Bati drew first blood in the 9th minute of play as Apisai Koroisau kicked a penalty to give Fiji a 2-0 lead.

Kangaroo fullback Bill Slater scored the first try for Australia followed by Valentine Holmes scoring two tries and Dane Gagai crossing over the try line, in the thirty-fifth minute to put Australia in a 22-2 lead during the half time break.

In the second half, Holmes scored a four tries, Gagai scored two and Slater with one try.

The Bati never gave up hope that led to Vunivalu’s try in the corner in the 60th minute of play.

The Fijian boys held their heads high despite the loss knowing they gave the Kangaroos a good run in the first semi-final.

Meanwhile Valentine Holmes created history in the Rugby League World Cup scoring six tries in a test match and a total of 11 tries in two games.

In the second semi-final Tonga will take on England at 6pm tonight in Auckland New Zealand.
