Shanice Takayawa won Fiji’s first Judo gold medal at the Pacific Games yesterday.

Continuing the family legacy, the young judoka was over the moon yesterday after achieving what she trained very hard for.

“I was praying throughout not to give up, I constantly thought of the people who helped us get this far, I kept praying to the loard to keep us going.”

She says having her mother at the Games really boosted her performance.

Judo coach Asaeli Rasolo Lemaki says the women’s team has really improved compared to the last Games in Papua New Guinea.

“We have improved in women’s results, there are plenty women here taking part in judo for Fiji and we only have three men travelling with us.”

There will be team events for Judo tomorrow.
