Japan shocks Colombia

Japan has become the first Asian side to defeat South American opposition, Colombia 2-1 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup this morning.

This is the first World Cup tournament in which four South American teams have failed to win their opening game since 1974.

Both the teams locked at 1-all in the first half.

Shinji Kagawa scored Japan’s opening goal before Colombia’s Juan Fernando Quintero replied with a goal to level their score margin 1-all at halftime.

Yuya Osako scored Japan’s winning goal in the 73rd minute of the second spell.

Meanwhile, Colombia midfielder’s Carlos Sanchez became the first player to get a red card in Russia.
