Improvements at scrum to continue-McKee

September 24, 2015 4:47 am

The improvements in the Vodafone Flying Fijians scrums were quite visible in the 28-13 loss to the Wallabies at the Rugby world Cup this morning.

Fiji overpowered the Wallabies at scrum time which hasn’t been seen from any Fijian side for a very long time.

Coach John McKee says this is all due to the effort being put into that area and plans are to share the knowledge with the Fijian Flyers back home.

“The scrum has been a project for us for quite a long time now and a lot of credit goes to our scrum coach Allan Muir as he has worked really hard with our tight five and our pack as a whole to get us to the level that we are now and certainly when you look back to our November tour of 2013 where we really struggled in the scrums and there was an improvement last November and at the World Cup we have stepped up to another level. The challenge for us is to start that level with this top group and also to develop the next group of front rowers in Fiji who can carry on. Some of the young guys back home could be in the 2019 World Cup team so we need to work with them and start developing the depth of scrums in Fiji.”

Fiji’s next match in against Wales at 3.45am on Friday week.
In the lone match tomorrow morning, New Zealand plays Namibia at 7am.

You can watch the entire tournament live on FBC TV and catch live commentaries of Fiji’s matches on Bula FM and Radio Fiji One.
