Ikanikoda roped into Fiji 7s squad

February 18, 2016 4:07 am

Former national rep and Police playmaker, Livai Ikanikoda has been roped into the Vodafone Fiji 7s extended squad in preparation for the North American leg of the World Series next month.

Ikanikoda has played in only one World Series tournament, when he helped the national 7s side clinch the Gold Coast 7s title in 2011.

Coach, Ben Ryan says apart from being a gifted player, Ikanikoda will provide the extra cover for the halves role following the departure of extended squad members, Filipo Daugunu and Kaveni Dabenaise to Australian rugby league.

“I brought him into the squad, he hasn’t been in any of my training squads but I thought he has been playing well in the tournaments for the Police side. It looks like he has trimmed down and looks in good shape. We can play him at halfback and playmaker and I think he can play at hooker as well. He gives us good flexibility. We just wanted some cover here and I wanted to see what he is like on the field.”

12 players will be named next week to compete in the Las Vegas 7s on March 5th-7th.

The inaugural Vancouver 7s in Canada will be held the following week.
