Max Hughes, the man who guided the Wardens Gold side to the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s title over the weekend is confident, more of his players can make the national sevens team for the World Sevens Series.

Wardens Gold defeated Army Green 33-19 to win the Cup final on Saturday at Prince Charles Park.

Hughes was happy to see two of his players; Kitione Taliga and Abele Yalayalatabu being recalled into Ben Ryan’s 18-member national extended squad to prepare for the Glasgow and London 7s tournaments.

“It means that our program is working and we move on from here. The main thing is for the players to achieve their goals in life. If they achieve wearing the white jersey, than that’s good and if they can go overseas for a contract, that’s a bonus. The main thing for us coaches is to groom a player individually and a team as a whole.”

Hughes dedicated Wardens Gold’s victory to all employees of the Fiji Corrections Services, their families as well as the inmates in facilities around the country.
