Stewards have upheld a protest into alleged interference in the final 100 metres of the race that stops the nation.

Fourth-placed Il Paradiso copped interference from second-placed Master Of Reality as the two horses battled for a superior position in the final moments of the race.

Master of Reality, ridden by Frankie Dettori, was out in front and blocked off Ill Paradiso, ridden by Wayne Lordan, who was making great ground on the inside.

Jockey Wayne Lordan opted against protesting before Racing Victoria stewards decided the incident required a review.

The stewards later decided that there was indeed interference on Il Paradiso from Master Of Reality, forcing a shuffling of the finishing order.

Master of Reality now gets relegated to fourth from second, Prince of Arran who was third moves up to second and Il Paradiso moves up to third.

The relegation means Master Of Reality will lose over $600,000 in prize money.

The protest had no impact on the winner of the race Vow and Declare.
