The 4th annual Grasshopper tournament kicked off at the Netball centre in Suva today

The 4th annual Grasshopper tournament kicked off at the Netball centre in Suva today.

30 teams from around the country, including an international team from Australia and another from New Zealand are competing in the event.

Tournament Ambassador Stephanie Wood says the tournament gives young girls an opportunity to develop their skills.

Giving players the opportunity in Fiji as they produce a lot of naturally talented athletic girls. So it’s about finding those girls and giving them an opportunity to play across with team in Australia.”

Wood says the tournament is also preparing potential athletes in the Under-19 category to represent Fiji in the 2021 Youth World Cup.

The two-day round robin tournament continues tomorrow at the Netball centre.
