November 1, 2014 4:08 am

62 runners competed in the country’s first ever mountain running event at Nabukelevu Village in Serua this morning.

Jet Runners Club president Abhinesh Kumar, who organized the run was overwhelmed by the support of the villagers and sports fraternity during the
run.

“The villagers were sitting beside the road cheering the runners. That’s what running is all about. I am thankful to them as well as the Fiji Sports Commission and Ministry of Youth and Sports Western Division for their support. After today’s event, I can say that we have a lot of talent in the rural areas.”

Meanwhile, national rep Avikash Lal won the open grade 5 kilometre race while Mereia Rabo claimed gold in the female open grade.
